What is the purpose?

I propose a question to you all... What is the purpose of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Have any of you asked yourself that? And if you haven't... take a minute to think about it. What is the purpose? There are many many people in the world who accept Jesus and His teachings but may not be able to answer this question. I would say it's a pretty important one :) Is the Savior and His gospel merely a crutch? Something to lean on and support us when we feel down or discouraged. Is it just something to belief in so that we can feel comfortable about the questions of our soul? We know that these blessings of comfort really do come from the truth, but I testify that the purpose of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is much more! Prayerfully read and ponder this insight from, Elder D. Todd Christofferson, an Apostle of the Lord.

"Our Heavenly Father is a God of high expectations. His expectations for us are expressed by His Son, Jesus Christ, in these words: 'I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect'. He proposes to make us holy so that we may 'abide a celestial glory' and 'dwell in his presence'. He knows what is required, and so, to make our transformation possible, He provides His commandments and covenants, the gift of the Holy Ghost, and most important, the Atonement and Resurrection of His Beloved Son. In all of this, God's purpose is that we, His children, may be able to experience ultimate joy, to be with Him eternally, and to become even as He is... The gospel of Jesus Christ is a plan that shows us how to become what our Heavenly Father desires us to become."

Doesn't that make so much sense? So what is the purpose of the gospel? It is a gospel of transformation! The center of the Gospel is Christ's sacrafice, His atonment, which allows us to be cleansed, purified, and transformed as we live His teachings. The covenants and commandments that he gives us are for our growth and development to become more like Christ. The Saviors message is not just one of apathetic belief and not just something to help us feel good about ourselves. In fact, in the scriptures, He doesn't only ask for our commitment, but for our very lives. His message is truly the 'pearl of great price' because it helps us fill our potential. He died for us because He loved us. He taught us because He loves us. And because the Savior loves us He asks us to not only to belief, but to become.

So now... here comes my invitation to anyone who reads this :) I knew you were waiting for it. Prayerfully think of what you want to develop and become- maybe it's strengthening your faith or patience, maybe it's being a better mother or brother- whatever the case I'm sure it's great. Now remember... a to be list without a to do list is just a wish list. So identify specefic things that you can do to become a better person and then do it! I promise that as you do this you will be living the Gospel of Jesus Christ; you will be living your purpose.

You can do hard things!

I promise to everyone within the sound of my voice-or more correctly the words of this text ;)- that you can do hard things!! My mission is getting closer to its end and I have been pondering recently about all of the hard things that I have had to do on my mission and throughout my life. Many of them have been very hard, maybe not as hard as you, but they were hard enough that I didn't know if I could do them at first. But I can testify that "whom the Lord calls, He qualifies". He will not ask you to do something that you cannot do-that is too hard. So please do two things for me. The first: go to this talk "Waiting on the Road to Damascus" and read it. The second: think about something that deep down you know is right and true but is hard to do, and have faith and do it :) I promise the Lord will walk with you and help you on your journey of more closely following Him.

A Shout Out to all those Mothers in the World

Yesterday, I, along with about ten other fellow missionaries met with our mission president and wife at their home here in New York. We talked about Christlike Leadership and how we can better move the gospel forward. . . But we decided to spice up the day a little bit and come up with a song to thank all of our moms at home and mother figures out here on our mission. These are the words.

"Mothers Day... It's such a beautiful day day day.

The Day is all about you... Not!

It's all about our mothers, our moms, our mommies, our mummies.

Mothers Day... It is the Day we co-mme-merate

all the mission moms... You're great,

thank you for all that you do...

And we will love to serve you.

Adjectives about our mothers are amazing, smiley, happy, loving, caring, classy, thrifty, great!

We love you... Thank you for all that you do!"

Well anyways we performed to many of our mother figures out here on our missions and it was a lot of fun. But I want to thank all of the mothers out there for their commitment, love, and sacrafice to their families. I will forever be grateful to my mom. Wow she is the greatest person God created :) I don't know if you good mothers will every truly realize the impact you make on the world. We truly do love you... and thank you for all that you do. Happy Mothers Day!!!

(I tried to upload the video of our song but it didn't work.... will try again soon!)

Family... Isn't it about time ;)

"The most important of the Lord's work you will ever do will be within the walls of your own homes". - President Harold B. Lee

On my mission I have met A LOT of people and let me tell you... no two people are exactly alike. People are unique! But there is always something in common... the importance of family. They may come from a home built on a foundation of love and support, or maybe a foundation of fear and mistrust; their family experience may be positive or negative. Everyone wants a better relationship with their family members. Everyone child wants a loving Mother and Father that is concerned about their needs. Every wife wants her husband to appreciate the service she does for the family. Every Dad wants to be loved and respected by his children. Family is imporant!!

So how can we have a sucessful family. Listen to the best advice I know. "The message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ makes it possible for families to be united now and in eternity. By living the principles of the gospel, families can experience peace, joy and a sense of belonging and identity in this life. Through the light of the gospel, families can resolve misunderstandings, contentions, and challenges. Families torn by discord can be healed through repentance, forgiveness, and faith in the power of the Atonment of Jesus Christ. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Sucessful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities." (Preach My Gospel. 3)

I know that is true! I have to give a great shout out to my family. I love them more than my life for what they have done for me. I am largely who I am today because of my family, especially my Mom, Dad, and brother Kyle. I have a witness that the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and His church will unify and strengthen your family relationships because it has done that for mine. I promise that if you and your family live the restored gospel, you will be a succesful family. God be thanked for His glorious gospel, which is the only ultimate source of joy for us individually and our families.

Testimony of Christ

I just thought I'd share a little segment of a talk that I have been thinking a lot about lately. I have been spending a lot of time trying to better understand and apply the sacrifice of Christ. As I have done so, I have seen my personal testimony and love for the Savior strengthen. The following teaching is the latter part of Elder Bruce R. McConkie's last talk given in mortality. He bears a strong and sure witness of Christ and His Atonement. Put your seatbelts on! Along with Elder McConkie I invite us all to deepen our understanding and relationship of the Savior. "Now, the Atonement of Christ is the most basic and fundamental doctrine of the Gospel, and it is the least understood of all our revealed truths. Many of us have a superficial knowledge and rely upon the Lord and his goodness to see us through the trials and perils of life. But if we are to have faith as Enoch and Elijah we must believe what they believed, know what they knew, and live as they lived. May I invite you to join with me in gaining a sound and sure knowledge of the Atonement. We must cast aside the philosophies of men and the wisdom of the wise and hearken to that Spirit which is given to us to guide us into all truth. We must search the scriptures, accepting them as the mind and will and voice of the Lord and the very power of God unto salvation. And now as pertaining to this perfect Atonement, wrought by the shedding of the blood of God-- I testify that it took place at Gethsamne and at Golgotha, and as pertaining to Jesus Christ, I testify that he is the Son of the Living God who was crucified for the sins of the world. He is our Lord, our God, and our King. This I know of myself independent of any other person. I am one of his Witnesses, and in the coming day I will feel the nail marks in his hands and in his feet and shall wet his feet with my tears. But I shall not know any better then than I know now that he is God's almighty Son, that he is our Saviour and Redeemer, and that Salvation comes in and through his atoning blood and in no other way. God grant that all of us may walk in the light as God our Father is in the light so that, according to his promises, the blood of Jesus Christ his Son will cleanse us from all sin. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ Amen." Click here to watch Elder McConkie's last testimony.

You Will Be Freed

WATCH THIS VIDEO!!! Amazing video on the true power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."

Having a bad day?

Do you ever just have a tough day? Yeah, me too. Sometimes it seems that life and it's many trials like to come at you all at once. Maybe all in one day, or a week, or a year of your life. A lot of the trials are unexpected and some take the form of perceived weaknesses. Some may seem silly to some people, but they are all real to us. I learned a great lesson this week about trials.
"It is not the design of heaven that we be rescued from all difficult situations. Rather, it is the Lord's will that we learn to handle them." (McConkie, "Finding Answers" Ensign. Feb. 2011) The purpose of this life is not just to pass a test. It is to become like our Heavenly examples. The Lord gives us hard times not only that we overcome them, but that we become greater because of them. The Lord was also kind enough to show us how we can use trials to help us become better.... "Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes." (Alma 37:6-7) Because of Christ and His atonement, we can use His strength to become better one step at a time. So even though today might be a tough day, we can thank God that we can become better because of it!
